 How did I manage it without you? Aug 25, 2010
I love my KitchenAid food processor! It is classy, well built, it operates quietly and it saves me a ton of time. I ask myself how did I survive all these years without one? I am sooo overly excited about it!
This piece is built to last. I really recommend it! I'll be buying more extra discs for it. I'm hooked!
I would change just two things: Make the power cord retractable or at least have a way to coil it under it. No big deal... but the only way to hide it is to tuck it behind the thing. Also, I would love it even more if the slicer was adjustable in a way that you could cut very thin slices to a little thicker. But I'm super happy with it noneless. Yay!

I ordered the product on July 29th and received it the next day. Packaging was sturdy and the machine was received in perfect condition. I have had the processor for almost three weeks, and have used it perhaps eight times.
Unpacking: After opening the box, the only easy manner in which the product can be removed is by grabbing the handle of the plastic bowl and lifting the entire bowl and base from the packaging. The instructions state that moving by the handle is not the preferred method of handling. It would be easy and cheap for the maker to include a simple hammock like string (like a turkey lifter) which would facilitate removal without using the bowl handle.
The instructions for assembling the bowl and base are quite good. Disassembly is less clear, and the product is delivered with the bowl assembled. I did not read far enough in the instruction manual to discover that the top lid had to be rotated in order to allow the large bowl to be rotated and removed. A clear instruction there would have been helpful.
The machine is designed to use a "mini-bowl" for small jobs. In theory, this is a useful option; however, there is an important trade-off. The cylinder of the larger bowl, which fits over the drive shaft, has to be quite short in order to accommodate the mini-bowl. This short neck results in a very small liquid capacity for the larger bowl, approximately two cups. Three small tomatoes when chopped in the larger bowl will overflow the short neck-- so making more than a small amount of salsa, for example, is a problem. Centrifugal force keeps some liquid out of the neck, but once the machine is turned off, liquid can and most often will seep over the neck and down onto the base. It's a relatively minor clean up job, but still annoying. The mini-bowl cannot use the disc blades, only the chopping blade. I am not going to return the item because of the neck issue, but I would not purchase this particular design again. If there were an optional bowl which I could purchase which did not accommodate the mini-bowl and which had a higher neck, I would purchase that as an accessory.
The top lid of the bowl covers and fits over the outside. It's best to turn over the lid when removing as some liquid can be caught in the top, but I've never had a problem with doing this, and the small lip ensures that nothing drops from the top as it goes to the sink to be cleaned up.
Cleanup is easy, as all removable parts are dishwasher safe. I've chopped carrots and other vegies and have no problem with the bowl staining or otherwise discoloring, but using the bowl as a storage vessel might result in a different outcome.
I like the quite operation, apparent strength, and bulk of the machine. With a different bowl, or even the option of a 2nd large bowl, I would be a much more satisfied customer.

Ordered this a couple years ago, for the price I was very surprised to see it was Made in China. Kitchenaid had always been American made and known for its top notch quality. Not anymore. I should've sent it back then and there, but for some reason I didn't.
At first I was impressed. Seemed quiet, powerful, and worked really well. After a few months of usage though the handle of the bowl started getting crud jammed in it and it's very difficult to open up and clean due to the idiotic nanny safety shut off device inside. Instead of making the handle solid and relying on the fact that you're smart enough not to stick your fingers in it while it's running, there's a stupid interlock that shuts it off if you open the lid. Not long after the cheap plastic on this broke and the only way to operate it at all was to stick a toothpick into the switch on the base which is hard to do and use it at the same time.
Recently while using it, the motor completely burned out. This after only a couple years of light (maybe once weekly) usage. I opened the unit up to see if the brushes are serviceable and found the motor is molded into the plastic of the base! It can't even be removed. Typical completely disposable cheap chinese junk. It's obvious kitchenaid cut every possible corner on this. I tossed it in the trash where it belongs and picked up a used Made in USA Kitchenaid food processor from the 80s on an online auction site as a replacement and have no doubt it will far outlast this one.
Never again will I consider any Kitchenaid products.

I got this for myself and have been really happy with it. After 5 months of use, it still looks new. It is a good strong processor. It runs great, will chop everything I use it for. It is nice and heavy, so I leave it out on the counter, esp since it has a nice clean look to it. This is also convenient since I use it quite often. It is a good size, I wouldn't want it to be any smaller, and really I wouldn't even mind if it were a bit larger. The extra, smaller bowl is handy at times, but when it is used, both bowls end up needing washing since the smaller one goes over the larger bowl, so I don't really use the smaller one very often.
Because I want the bowl to stay nice and clear, I never put it into the dishwasher, so I can't really say if it would hold up under that. It is easy to wash by hand, but the blades are very sharp, so I wouldn't let kids wash those. I have used a Cuisinart, and the lid to this one seems so much easier to get on and off with less steps to lock the lid in place, while still remaining safe.
The only complaint I have is the center stem which holds the blade. It is too short, therefore it does not come up enough, so some liquids tend to leak through that. I try to not chop too much wet stuff at a time just to allow for that, but it is something to watch for. I make a lot of salsa and smoothies in this, so it is very obvious. Still, I like the rest of the processor well enough that I will work around that.
I would recommend this processor. Just don't fill it more than a couple of inches with liquid at a time. Also, the shipping was fast, and KitchenAid paid their rebate fairly quickly, unlike most rebates seem to be.

No words can express how I feel about this machine...All I can say is FANTASTIC!!! Heavy duty, Solid, machinery that does everything I want it to do in little time.
